ABOUT SAM CHAPLIN:

Sam Chaplin read music at Manchester University, studying composition with John Casken, followed by a Masters in Jazz Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he continued to study harmony and composition with Pete Churchill. Sam also spent a year training in community music leading with Spitalfields Music.

Sam has been the Musical Director for the Choir with No Name in London – a choir for people whose lives have been affected by homelessness since 2012. His community music work has seen him leading song-writing workshops in prisons, with adults with disabilities and young people with autism. He has led a choir for women who have had their children taken into care called ‘The Incredible Women’s Choir’, and choirs in homeless hostels, with recovery groups and in a Macmillan Centre for those suffering with cancer.

Sam has worked as a composer and concert presenter receiving commissions from The Royal Opera House, Spitalfields Festival, The Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment and The Royal College of Music as part of their learning and participation work.

Over the last two decades Sam has performed across the world with his band Jazzbomb as lead-singer and jazz trumpeter. His charismatic leading style is perfect for delivering hugely entertaining parties. With Jazzbomb he has performed in Paris, Monaco, Geneva and Dubai as well as across London and the UK.

Sam has been using his skills in workshop leading to deliver high-energy corporate singing workshops across the UK and Europe gently drawing people out of their comfort zones, developing leadership skills and bringing  a sense of joy and togetherness to teams and organisations.

Sam also performs as a singer and trumpeter. He collected together songs he had written over the last couple of decades and  released his album ‘Back Into Life’ in 2021 – a post-pandemic manifesto! Some of the songs are exuberant celebrations, others are intimate reflections. Sam continues to perform with his Jazz quartet and is writing for a new album.
